The 'Thirties' were filled with ongoing political and economical disruptions. The great depression known as the longest, most widespread and deepest depression of the 20th century is now just an example of how far the worlds economy can decline. Unemployment made everyday life miserable, family's eliminated essentials to live through each day and protesting became a way of passing time. Despite its painful irony, the songs optimistic lyric sang its way through a Long, tough, uncertain decade.
The 1930's were tiresome and misfortunate but for such circumstances people remained civilized despite their troubles. President Franklins D Roosevelt hallmark phase 'We have nothing to fear, but fear itself' described America at its most vulnerable state.
